Wordless Wednesday! Doomed Desks!

http://secondgradesugarandspice.blogspot.com/

It's humpday and I'm linking up with Miss Decarbo at Second Grade Sugar and Spice for her weekly Linky party!

What kind of student desks do you have in your room? Or are you lucky enough to have tables?  Unfortunately, this is what I have to work with to form groups and it is a challenge to say the least. :(    If you are like me and  blessed with the desk above, what do you do to make groups?

  1. I have the desks where everything goes underneath the tabletop, so it's pretty easy to just group them together and make a large table. I don't know what I'd do with those kind of desks and making groups! Maybe just have groups meet in another area of the class, carpet, somewhere! Good Luck :)

  2. I am blessed with the same desks as you! haha My plan is to already have the desks in groups, so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem for me!

  3. I used to have tables in first grade, which I loved because they were always in groups. In 2nd this year, I'll have the standard desk with the storage under the desktop. I plan to group them in fours before the kids come so they're already in groups.

  4. I would love the storage underneath the desktop.. It is these racks I could do without.. EVERYTHING falls out.. Grouping is hard due to the fact you have to leave enough space for the kiddos to get out to the desk (fire marshall would have a filed day if I didn't-LOL), sooo that means I can't really form a "table top" with the desk tops. Its more like a gappy top.. I do have the kids sit on the floor for groups sometimes, but then again our rooms are bit small for such endeavors. I guess I'll just have to struggle with these jokers again this year.. LOL.. I'm super jealous of you all who do have descent desk and tables.. LOL..

  5. I teach K and have tables. I would love to go down to 3 so I have room for other things, but my classes continue to grow each year and make the fourth table a necessity. If I didn't want to them to have decent handwriting, I'd just totally get rid of tables and use the floor!

  6. I have regular wooden desks and chairs that are not attached. I'm able to make groups. I wouldn't want tables though, because I like being able to move the desks into a circle on some days when we discuss novels! :)

  7. We have HUGE two person tables. These are a blessing and a curse. Makes for little room in the classroom depending on the arrangement of the desks but they are wonderful for partner and group work! Each desk has a shelf inside for students to store their binders but it's pretty small so we recommend students create a pillowcase pocket for the back of the chair!

  8. Up until last year, we had terrible, clunky, tank-quality desks w/detached chairs from the 60s that could have withstood a disaster. Luckily, we are now an executive functioning classroom and therefore received amazing new tables and comfortable chairs last year. It has made SUCH A DIFFERENCE, both in the layout/space of the room, but more importantly in student collaboration and participation! Thanks for linking up and sharing.

  9. I have giant lab tables that seat a lot of kids. I usually group them in groups of 3-4. In my old third grade classroom I had flat top desk that fit together to make a table. Some of the teachers in my school have tables instead of desks! (They asked for it- it eliminates kids playing with things inside their desks!)

  10. I would LOVE tables! I actually used to have them TWICE, but for some reason or another I kept having to get rid of them and have those useless rack desk keep replacing them! The first year I had tables was awesome. Then my grade moved to a different school and we were told tables wouldn't fit.:( Later I tried tables again and had to order really cheap ones smaller ones. They didn't work very well and collapsed too much :(.... I was told to get rid of the those tables and here came those useless desks again. Ugh! I think they are stalking me! LOL
